The Butterfly series is one I am especially excited about. Since planting a butterfly garden in our backyard, my family and I have fallen in love with these beautiful creatures! In this series I use various media and collage techniques to surround the hand-painted butterfly with complementary colors, textures and patterns.
Incorporated into the background are the butterfly's host plant and sometimes its caterpillar and/or chrysalis. The closer you look at them, the more you will find! Just as the butterflies themselves are unique, each of these paintings have their own personality. I started with Florida butterflies, but plan to eventually paint species from other areas. The original paintings from the Butterfly series are sold in the gift shop at Lukas Butterfly Encounter in Oviedo, Florida. Right now I am working exclusively on this collection, so check back often for new arrivals!
